One of my favorite hobbies is movie watching, so doing an article on something related to movie theatres was a quick decision. To localize it, I decided to make my article on how theatres such as The Crest and the Tower Theatre stay open when there is competition such as state-of-the-art commercial theaters such as Cinemark and UA theatres. Also, if I can find a smooth way to work it in to the article, I would also write about how some branches of theatres are closing down after a long run, such as the Sacramento Drive-ins.
As for research, I am going to conduct a number of interviews. I have arrnanged for an interview with the manager of The Crest and with the manager of a Century Theatre in Folsom. I have performed interviews before several times, but I have been brushing up on techniques and strategies by reading our text book. I've prepared some questions for them regarding information necessary to my article, but I'm also hoping that our dialogue might give me some bonus material I wasn't expecting.
Also, I have been doing some research on the history of The Crest and the Tower Theatre. This has been helping me prepare certain questions for the interviewee, and is also preventing me from wasting their time by asking obivous or redundan questions.
I am also considering interviewing a few movie-goers to see what their opinions are on the different types of theatres. As nice as it is to have first hand testimony about certain establishments, I think it is also important to get what the public thinks as well.
I'm currently searching on the internet for any of resources that may come in handy, but I have discovered anything yet.
